I have published around 40 solo photobooks but have only had one retrospective exhibition at London’s Barbican in 2002.

In an interview with It’s Nice That last year, I revealed that, as a child, I had a natural history museum of sorts in my cellar. It consisted of bird pellets, skulls and dead moles.  

During 1983-85, I repeatedly photographed the people on a beach in Merseyside. It has become one of my most popular series.
