Ideas for highs and lows of creative life and careers

JOURNAL - #WEEK 14

Wednesday 5th April

Three people inspire me every day. Their actions make me get my act in gear every morning. However, I don't know who they are. I don't know their names. All I know is that my superheroes wear running shoes and put an effort in every morning regardless of the weather. To them, muddy trails outside my window don't matter. Sub-zero temperatures? No problem. Thanks to them I have pushed through the winter cycling season in all sorts of weather too. This week, we look at the world of sports for a multifaceted and multidiscipline version of our potential that strives through a consistent build-up of mental and physical resilience.

HAVE A LOOK BELOW

  1. A gorgeously produced book, Mindfulness and Surfing by Sam Bleakley is a great thesis on how we should reconnect with nature in times of egological surplus and ecological crisis. If you follow WSL, you might be familiar with Sam's work and if not here's a great interview to check out

  2. Discovering Your Own Potential by Alexi Pappas, a short documentary piece about her life adapting and overcoming challenges on her way to the Rio Olympics, writing and producing movies and her recent book, Bravey

  3. Cycling clothing brand MAAP celebrates the lives of cyclists across the world. Pursuit of Progression: Missy Martucci, on her story of founding a race team in LA.

  4. Michael Phelps is one of the most celebrated Olympic swimmers of all time. His life story isn't as straightforward as the results that appeared on our TV screens. In this Whoop podcast interview, he shares stories of struggles, depression and even life-ending thoughts. If you are curious about sleep vs performance, listen to this episode from Whoop.

  5. A gym for social media likes - An older project but still relevant from SixnFive creative studio in Barcelona.

  6. The latest additions to Mind Full Creative playlist are made up of various Shazam 'tags', if that's what it's called, which I found on my phone.

  7. Australian photographer Trent Mitchell, who has been making photographs for more than 20 years, started his photography career in 2007. His shots of rolling waves are one of a kind, somewhat resembling expressive oil paintings.

As always, thank you for your replies to these journals. Let me know your thoughts. See you next Wednesday with the next edition of Creativity For Sale.
