Can we practice design without harming the planet?

At this year’s *virtual* AIGA Design Conference, Eye on Design is partnering with Scratching the Surface to put on a series of conversations around ecology + design. Topics of discussion will include: How do you build an eco-conscious design practice? What exactly is design’s role in the climate movement? And what other communities and industries should we look to for the way forward? Come ready to learn about “visual sustainability;” resilient, nature-based technology; and the new crop of designers who are centering their practices on climate action.

The session with feature:

  • Jarrett Fuller, host of Scratching the Surface, interviewing Julia Watson about her book Lo-Tek: Design by Radical Indigenism and resilient, nature-based technology

  • Meg Miller, editor of Eye on Design, interviewing Benedetta Crippa, educator and lead designer at the Stockholm Environment Institute, about her course on visual sustainability

  • Designer, writer, and educator Anoushka Khandwala moderating a panel with Joycelyn Longdon of Climate in Colour, Scott Starrett of Tandem, and Jonny Black of Office of Ordinary Things about building a design practice around climate action.

Catch us on the first day of the conference, Monday November 9, at 12pm EST. Find more information in the full conference schedule, and purchase your tickets now (day passes are available!).
