For a long time, we wanted to create a printed magazine that hasn’t existed before. A magazine exploring topics that often get lost in a myriad of blog posts out there. Not a magazine about fleeting design trends or ever-changing frameworks, but topics that would make us all think, and remain useful as time passes by. One theme per issue, written by the community for the community — people like you, who design and build the web.
Meet Smashing Print, our brand new magazine created to challenge the status quo. Get your copy right away.
For the very first issue, we wanted to bring spotlight to a topic that’s very close to our hearts: ethics, privacy and security. How do we deal with tracking, advertising, GDPR, data protection and addictive interfaces? Dark patterns are everywhere, and while they bring quick wins, long term they irreversibly damage trust and bring hidden (and often unaccounted) costs.
In the first issue, Trine Falbe, Heather Burns, Laura Kalbag, Cennydd Bowles and other contributors explore different aspects of privacy and ethics, and how we can change the way we design and build.
Want to peek inside? Download a free PDF sample (PDF, ca. 3MB) with an article on how we can move to ethics by default. The issue contains 7 articles:
All Smashing Members ($5 per month) get the eBook for free, and Smashers ($9 per month) also get a printed copy shipped straight to the doorsteps. (Just don't forget to save your shipping address in your personal details!). Thanks for being smashing!
