Our Fall 2021 Reading List

Preheader

Zuzu pairing notes for a very bookish fall.

Some people like pairing red wine and cheese to celebrate the arrival of autumn, but to be honest, cozying up with a delicious Zuzu and a great book is more our speed. (OK fine, we’ll take the cheese, too.) To prepare for a season full of evenings with a great book in one hand and a Zu in the other, we’re refilling our Zuzu coffers and sharing the titles we’re aiming to tackle before the year is through.

A Passage North is a sensitive and tender novel about a young man who journeys into Sri Lanka's war-torn north. (Pair it with: Passion Fruit Zuzu and popcorn)

No One Is Talking About This is a hilarious social critique that questions whether or not there is life after the internet. (Pair it with: Passion Fruit Zuzu straight outta the bottle and some Haribo Golden Bears)

Bewilderment is a touching novel about an astrobiologist raising his unusual nine-year-old, Robin, following the death of his wife. (Pair it with: Calamansi Lime Zuzu with a squeeze of orange)

The End of Days by Jenny Erpenbeck is a shimmering, fractious novel that asks “what if” relentlessly and examines the decisions we make with a wise and unflinching eye. (Pair it with: a Zuzuzu. Your choice of flavor with a splash of smoky mezcal on top)

Come, Thief is a collection of poems from Jane Hirshfield that tackles on beauty, time, nature and the emotional world with HIrshfield’s singular eye and ear. (Pair it with: Passion Fruit and a hot, epsom salt-y bath)

Anna Seghers's Transit  is a brilliant, Kafkaesque thriller about an ever-growing throng of people trying to escape Europe during World War II. Seghers’ tone is like none other—full of guile and mischief and the weight of history. (Pair it with a Zuzu Palmer: equal parts Calamansi and Passion Fruit)

Severance is an apocalyptic satire about Candace Chen, a millennial, first-generation American, and Yuppie. (Pair it with Calamansi Lime with an extra squeeze of lime!)
