Skerries crew launch to the rescue
Last month, Skerries’ Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Louis Simson, raced to the rescue of two men aboard a 34ft yacht after suffering a mechanical failure with their engine. Dublin Coast Guard shared the duo’s GPS coordinates with the Skerries crew, who plotted a course directly to the stricken yacht thanks to the lifeboat’s high-tech navigation system. With a top speed of 35 knots, the lifeboat powered the volunteers to the scene.

Lifesaving legacies
Over the years, people have turned china ornaments, Ferraris and even gold teeth into lifesaving legacies for the RNLI. And when you leave a gift to the RNLI in your Will, no matter how much, we’ll make sure you’ll always be remembered. Because we will add your name to the side of an all-weather Shannon class lifeboat. It’s our way of saying thank you, and of remembering you and your greatest act of kindness that will save lives for years to come. And if you’re aged 55 or over and living in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, you can write or update your simple Will completely free of charge with Free Wills Month this October.
