Jennifer Gonzalez Can we free ourselves from the ego? Jake Sargent Probably not, but we can recognize and name our ego and there’s freedom in that. Jennifer Gonzalez Have you ever taken a professional or creative misstep that you quickly learned to never repeat? Jake Sargent I’m continually learning to trust my creative instinct. In that sense, it’s not a misstep I’ll never repeat but one I’m constantly re-learning and gaining confidence in. ‘Choosing satisfaction is our ticket off the merry-go-round.’ Jennifer Gonzalez What is satisfaction? Jake Sargent While it’s easier for me to say than to live by, I view satisfaction as a choice. It’s choosing to be satisfied, to be fulfilled, and not letting our circumstances control us. If we let our circumstance control our satisfaction we’ll always be looking for the next better thing. Choosing satisfaction is our ticket off the merry-go-round. It also occurs to me what satisfaction is not. Satisfaction is not the absence of desire, or ambition, or the need to change or evolve. We can be satisfied and recognize where our current reality falls incredibly short. We can be satisfied and dream and act on new realities.
