Hi Smiles Davis, Arizona State University is a model for sustainability operations and practices through four overarching sustainability goals: climate neutrality, zero solid and water waste, active engagement, and principled practice. We strive to reduce consumption, maximize efficiency and rethink problems to find solutions. With Earth Day being next month, ASU students are getting ready to join more than a billion people around the world on March 30 in an event called Earth Hour. During this annual event, we encourage students to turn off all non-essential lights for one hour and host stargazing events to highlight the benefits of reducing light pollution. In the past, iconic landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge and the Eiffel Tower have gone dark for 60 minutes in support of Earth Hour. Earth Hour fits into ASU's sustainability goals by creating awareness of energy waste that adds to our carbon footprint and utility costs. Here are a few other ways ASU students are active in our sustainability culture and commitment to being green all year long.
