George Masa would spend hours and days, sometimes in the cold and rain, traversing uncleared trails with his heavy 8-by-10-inch view camera to photograph and map the Smokies. While he died in relative obscurity, his photographs were influential in the creation of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
