Graphic Designer Stefan Sagmeister Takes a Yearlong Sabbatical Every Seven Years (and Thinks You Should, Too)
The Austrian-born, New York–based graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister is famous for his attention-grabbing exhibitions, identities, posters, and books, as well as for his impeccable album covers for bands like The Rolling Stones, OK Go, and Aerosmith. He's also garnered praise for his 2009 TED Talk, where he presented his findings about the power of time off, specifically about the virtues and values, personal and professional, of taking a sabbatical every seven years. On this episode of Time Sensitive, Sagmeister shares with Spencer Bailey how his sabbaticals led to two massive multi-year undertakings—the most recent one on the subject of beauty, which resulted in a new Phaidon book and an exhibition currently on view at the Museum Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt (through Sept. 15, 2019).
