Week 2: Cluster Feeds & Witching Hour

Ah, the rollercoaster of emotions; so tough (but also normal)! Be gentle with yourself—especially this week when baby blues are at the height of their strength.

We're not going to sugar coat it—"witching hour" (a fussy period, usually in the late afternoon and definitely longer than an hour, despite its name) is one of the most frustrating parts of the entire first year. The good news? You get it over with at the beginning.
Babies are smart, and they know when they need to amp up their milk intake to supplement their growth. Don’t be surprised if a few days or weeks after giving birth your baby starts to nurse for very long periods of time. They know exactly what to do so follow their lead (and don’t stress, it usually only lasts for a few hours before the baby goes back to regularly scheduled programming.)

Sometimes the best line of defense during this time is "cluster feeding". Cluster feeding is when your baby has several (or what can feel like endless!) feeds close together. Cluster feeds typically happen in conjunction with a growth spurt and can be stressful AF, but—repeat after us: it's all temporary.
The key to avoiding full-on newborn meltdowns? Catch early hunger cues including rooting, yawning, and gnawing before tears erupt.
Let us help guide you through this totally normal (yet highly sleep-disruptive) clusterf*ck.
C-Sections can be complicated for parents; both in recovery and in adjusting expectations. Whatever you are feeling is valid; take all the time you need to work through it.

ALL BIRTHS ARE NATURAL BIRTHS
After a three-day labor resulted in an emergency C-Section, Ali was devastated not to have experienced a vaginal birth. But while she was pregnant with her second daughter, she was determined to rewrite the story.

Gotta hand it to our community—always blowing us away with their strength and resilience.
