AUGUST NEWSLETTER - VOLUME 1
Hi, we’re the team behind Bard
A few of us who work on Bard are trying something new that we’re excited to share with you. The AI space is new and exciting but can also be confusing and maybe even overwhelming, so we wanted to create a newsletter to help you understand how best to use Bard—and an opportunity to get to know us and what we’ve been working on. And as Bard continues to improve, we’ll continue to fill you in on what’s happening and what’s next.

Featured Prompts: Ask Bard to Compare

Every month, we’ll highlight some prompts to help inspire you to collaborate with Bard in different ways.
This time around, we want to highlight how you can get in-depth info by asking Bard to compare two or more things for you.

Compare yoga and pilates.

Compare the following classes: Discrete Mathematics vs Computer Security.

Compare dogs vs cats for a first time pet owner with a family.

The way you ask Bard really makes a big difference in the quality of the responses. So we wanted to share something we learned recently that helped us improve our prompt writing.
Featured Tip: Format the result
Let Bard know how to format the response and get the output you’re looking for.

I want to design a logo for my community bookstore.

Draft a design brief for my community bookstore’s new logo.

I’m applying for a marketing role.

Write me a cover letter for a marketing role.

Behind the Scenes at Bard

We recently hosted an AMA on our official Discord server and answered your most pressing questions. We’re recapping our favorites here:

Q: “Does Bard improve with each prompt or manual correction by a user? By what factor does it improve?”
A: “No, user feedback is integrated asynchronously and in aggregate. We use the feedback for direct product improvement, but feedback is rolled into our next-revision model efforts.”
Q: “How is our time best spent when it comes to interacting with Bard? Is it more beneficial for us to give a thumbs up/thumbs down, or is it better to help Bard work through errors and let it know it’s right?”
A: “Thumbs up and down are very useful for understanding great or negative answers. Working through conversations to get to a right answer is useful for you but not as clear of a signal for Bard optimization.”
Bard’s Discord Community is a private, invite-only server currently limited to a certain capacity. If you are interested in joining, stay tuned, as the community will open up to additional members in the future.
Explore what others are saying about Bard and how people are using it in really cool and interesting ways.
As we bring Bard to more people around the world, we’d like to share how we’re building Bard responsibly and how to best use Bard as your creative and helpful collaborator.
