Your new iPhone is filled with advanced technologies. Here are some of our favorite tips and tricks to help you get the most out of them. Swipe up from the bottom edge at any time to return home. Swipe up from the bottom edge and pause to show the App Switcher. Swipe down from the top-right to open Control Center. Press firmly on a control to reveal more options. Press and hold the side button to talk to Siri anytime. Or set up “Hey Siri” to use Siri hands-free. Double-click the side button at any time to get to Apple Pay and Wallet. Press firmly on the flashlight or camera buttons on the Lock screen to use them instantly with 3D Touch. Do the same with apps, links, and more to see previews and access useful shortcuts. Face ID is a natural and secure way to unlock, authenticate, and pay. It’s also attention aware, meaning your iPhone authenticates only when you intentionally look at it. If you haven’t already, go to Settings › Face ID, then follow the steps to enroll. Unlock. Simply raise your iPhone and look toward it to unlock. If it’s on a table or another flat surface, you can raise or tap to wake it first. Preview. Reveal notifications and messages by glancing at them when they appear. Pay. Double-click the side button and glance at your iPhone when using Apple Pay to make purchases securely. Keep reading. With attention awareness, your iPhone recognizes when you’re reading so the screen stays lit. Quiet notifications. With attention awareness, you can glance at an alarm or ringer notification to instantly lower the volume. Take selfies in Portrait mode. Shoot selfies with a beautiful depth‑of‑field effect that keeps your face in sharp focus against an artfully blurred background. Switch to the front-facing camera in the Camera app, then swipe to Portrait. Use Portrait Lighting for studio-quality effects. Portrait Lighting allows you to control lighting effects with shadows, spotlights, and more. In Portrait mode, just swipe right in the menu to choose an effect. You can also use the Photos app to edit lighting effects on Portrait mode photos shot on iPhone X. Take even sharper close-ups. Tap 2x while in the Camera app for optical zoom. You can then swipe right from the 2x button to zoom further with digital zoom, which reaches up to 10x for photos and 6x for video. Make Live Photos even livelier. Turn a Live Photo into a fun video loop, make it bounce back and forth, or capture the elements of time and movement with a beautiful long exposure effect. In the Photos app, just swipe up on a Live Photo, then tap Loop, Bounce, or Long Exposure. Shoot 4K videos in up to 60 fps. Your iPhone lets you shoot high‑resolution video up to 4K, with over 8 million pixels. To enable it, go to Settings › Camera, then tap Record Video and select 4K. Admit it. You’ve always wanted to be a unicorn. Now you can create and share animated emoji that mirror your expressions in any of 12 different Animoji. In Messages, select Animoji from the app drawer to record, then share it as an animated message or sticker. iOS 11 is the world’s largest augmented reality platform, allowing games and apps to be more immersive and fluid than ever. Digitally redecorate your home, explore a city you’ve never visited, or even walk with dinosaurs. View AR apps in the App Store iPhone X works with Qi-certified wireless chargers commonly found in hotels, cafes, airports, and cars. Add a Screen Recording control. Just go to Settings › Control Center › Customize Controls. Adjust the flashlight brightness. Go to Settings › Do Not Disturb, then tap Activate under the Do Not Disturb While Driving heading. Or add it to Control Center for quicker access. Discover new music. WithApple Music, you can play 40 million songs, along with your own iTunes library. And now you can create a profile and follow friends to see the music they’ve been listening to. With SOS, you can quickly call the one you need. Just press and hold the side button and one of the volume buttons until the slider appears, then slide to make an SOS call.
