Whoops lets try that again! Gertudes — Is 3 typeface styles too many?

Hello Smiles Davis,

Ok turns out we got a little trigger happy and hit the go button waaay before this email was ready — all the links were wrong :( .

We are thrilled to announce the inaugural retail release from the collaboration between Metis Foundry & Modern Type — introducing the Gertrudes family. Gertrudes B originated in 2017 during a branding project at io Design Company. Initially, it was a straightforward geometric sans with a few unconventional angular characters.

During the typeface development, we pondered the possibility of smoothing out the angular characters to observe its appearance as a more traditional geometric sans. This led to the creation of a stylistic set, which we now refer to as Gertrudes A.

Following the creation of Gertrudes A, the natural progression for us was to explore what would happen if we amplified the unconventional angular forms across more characters. The result was a font with a distinctly futuristic feel, setting it apart from the original drawings and Gertrudes A — thus, Gertrudes C was born.

The outcome is three distinct typefaces within a single font. You have the option to choose which style is the default, while the other two are available as OpenType stylistic sets.

Gertrudes A, B & C is available in 10 weights exclusively through the Modern Type Website.

Thanks for your ongoing support for
Metis Foundry. We have a new font coming in shortly. Talk then.
