"My name is Simon, I like blue and white, stripes, the sun, fruits, circles, life, poetry, Marseille and the 80s" reads the bio of fashion phenomenonn Simon Porte Jacquemus, who grew up in the French countryside with one of his biggest inspirations: his grandmother Liline.
There are few brands as committed to the amplification of the good life as Poolsuite, but Simon comes pretty close. In anticipation of his latest collection “LE PAPIER” launching on 27th June somewhere special and featuring pieces from his newest collaboration with Nike — and teased covertly in Hawai’i — there’s no better time to get to know the world of Jacquemus.
"I was born... in the 90s, the decade of techno and technology. But I grew up so naïve. My weekly highlight was to sell fruits and vegetables on the road-side on weekends with my grandparents. I had learned the licence plates of cars by heart so I knew which cars were from Paris. I would wait for tourists from Paris to sell my lavender to them. I think it says a lot about me."*
Known for his unique staging, Simon has donned his clothes from wheat fields to the Hawaiian shore with "L'AMOUR" and "LE SPLASH" collections respectively.
And why the names? Drawing from 80s French cinema, Vogue Italia and photographers like Steven Meisel, "All my collections have titles. I am obsessed with Godard movies and his film titles so I give all my collections a title, all starting with either L’, La or Le [...] I know my set, I know my music, I know every performing detail before I even know what the clothes will look like." And on that note, we look forward to the upcoming show.
