Dovetail’s search does more than help you get around faster. Advanced querying with fields like project, tag, and type are great for building queries that narrow your results and improve your analysis workflow.

Search is full-text, which means you can always find what you’re looking for, even if it’s buried in the content. And by default, search shows all results across all projects, which makes it great for browsing and discovery, too.

Full-text

Dovetail’s search is full-text, which means it searches inside the content of notes, tags, insights, and highlights, as well as the title; great for finding quotes, mentions of specific words, or anything else buried in your data.

Cross-project

Get a 10,000 foot view of all your user feedback and research data. For example, to see all insights ever created across all projects, simply start a new search, and in one click filter on type:insight.

Exclusions

Insert a minus (-) to exclude results. For example, find notes that contain the word “confusing” but don’t have the tag usability. This is useful for checking coverage and tracking down things you’ve missed.

Multiple tags

Easily search for content that has multiple tags. For example, find everything tagged with both “negative” and “usability”.

Match types

Start with fuzzy matching to search quickly then narrow your search with exact matching using quotes (“”) for fields like project and tag.
