Last weekend in La Garde-Freinet, south of France, Low Intervention hosted a private event in our signature LOW style. Taking charge in the kitchen was our in house Chef Jamie Allan (ex Le Meurice / Le Chateaubriand) and on spaceship controls in the club was Jonny Nash (MAT Studio / Discosession / Sombrero Galaxy) and Suzanne Kraft (Dude Energy / MAT Studio).

As you would expect, a great time was had by all and some great wines were consumed ! We opened around 45 bottles over the course of the weekend and wanted to share with you the wines that are really showing well at this moment in time. You can work your way through them one by one, or for those of you that want to sample the full offer we’ve created a box with 1 of each of the wines for a very lean £325 !

AMERICANO BY CHINATI VERGANO

No one makes drinks quite like retired chemist Mauro Vergano and this red vermouth, made from local grape Grignolino and countless herbs and botanicals is quite something, displaying astonishing balance and complexity, it is guaranteed to turn heads at your next aperitivo.

MMXVI, 2016 BY LA GRAPPERIE

A one-off wine born from a horrible vintage for Renaud Guettier and many others in the Loire. His crop was so small he was only able to pick five barrels of Chenin and decided to make just one white, blending it with some wine from both 2016 and 2017. The result is a unique, deeply savoury and proof that something beautiful can come from even the most dire of circumstances.

HIMMEL AUF ERDEN WHITE II, 2017 BY CHRISTIAN TSCHIDA

PAUSE 2016, BY AD VINUM

Exactly the kind of beautiful craziness we've come to expect from ex Le Chateaubriand sommelier Seb Chatillon. This sees Sauvignon, Vermentino and Roussanne spending a year in an old Vin Jaune barrel from the 1980s donated by his friend Jean-Francois Ganevat. A wine of immense structure that is just at the beginning of a very long life, we urge you to lay some bottles down for a few years. There are no more of this wine available to buy anymore as every bottle that was left was sold to NOMA for a pairing they had created.

VINO IGT BIANCO JAKOT, 2012 BY RADIKON

Stanko Radikon was one of the natural wine world's true icons and his legendary work in the Oslavia region of Friuli, right by the border with Slovenia in Italy's northeast is now being carried on by his son Sasa. The wines benefit from what a soil type the Slovenian's call 'Ponca', a complex mix of sandstone, clay and marine deposits that produces powerful, mineral rich wines. This is Tocai, or Fruliano as they used to call it, fermented on skins for four months and aged in old casks for four years.

LE PRIMEUR, 2018 BY LE COSTE

As always a highly original take on Aleatico from the masters of the grape, Clementine and Gianmarco of Le Coste. This is simply one of the most charming wines you'll ever try. The fruit undergoes a carbonic maceration, lending gorgeous aromas full of flowers and in this vintage, an almost absence of structure that makes it such a joy to drink.

REVIENS GAMAY, 2018 BY SYLVAIN BOCK

A really charming expression of Ardeche Gamay from a parcel of vines planted over granite that underwent carbonic maceration. Fruit-forward, juicy and delicious, this is something we'd like to drink everyday if we could.

SPATBURGUNDER NATUR, 2016 BY SCHMITT

Another winner from Rheinhessen young guns Bianka and Daniel Schmitt, who are redefining what is possible in the region. This is a wonderfully vibrant take on Pinot Noir, which pairs complex scents of berries, earth and spice on the more delicate of frames.

VINO ROSSO 2017, BY CASCINA TAVIJN

Along with her parents, Nadia Verrua grows organic grapes and hazelnuts in the hills outside Asti in Piedmont. Her wines are simple and vibrant, with a great sense of place and this table wine is a really go-to wine for us. A blend of local grapes Barbera and RuchŽ this is ripe and juicy, with a lovely earthiness to boot.

PALOMA 2018, BY ES DAQUI

From the cellar of negociant whiz Jean-Louis Pinto comes this blend of Grenache and Colombard sourced from a vineyard around Pezenas, the two were fermented together as whole bunches for a couple of weeks, before being pressed off to old barrels for a short rest. A perfect red for summer.

LE REGARD 2017, BY JEAN PIERRE ROBINOT

Pineau d'Aunis from thirty year old vines planted over this wonderful terroir. This is the only wine where Jean-Pierre eschews the use of oak and instead grapes are fermented with whole bunches for a fortnight and aged in cuve for just nine months. As such it is always the most immediate of his reds. This is taut and sapid, heady with fresh pepper and wild fruits, a wine of infinite charm.

QUEER WERMOUTH TOSCANO NV, BY VINYER DE LA RUCA

Manuel puts the beauty of this vermouth down to beginners luck, but we are not so sure. Using an ancient Tuscan recipe, he blended his own Banyuls with Mediterranean herbs that grow amongst the vines. A vermouth of terroir this is completely unique and with some ice and a slice of orange, makes for an otherworldly aperitif.
