I read this story about Len Webb, an 88-year-old volunteer carving underwater creatures to bring children's stories to life for blind and visually impaired kids, and I had to stop. In a digitally panicked world (including me), this feels like human sanity.

He and the crew help bring books like Tiddler to life through raised images, careful painting, and audio guides. All so kids can feel a fish or follow a story with their fingertips. Slow, tender work that doesn’t ask for attention, but it sure has mine.

I usually feel guilty when I read stories like this. Just me? I want to live slower, but feel like I'm often caught in the rush of things. If I’m not careful I can even turn “being present” into another thing to optimize.

I have a lot going on. I freelance design (cuz Wimp doesn't pay the bills — yet!). I design brands and websites for clients I love. I’m raising three teens. I’m married to the most adorable woman who is hilariously sharp and impossibly beautiful. My life is full and interesting. And yet I forget all the time how to be slow enough to notice how deeply good things are.

Seeing what Living Paintings does, reminded me: real success can be small and slow. I’m no calm guru. I’m messy AF. So I appreciate stories like these that help me pause. Maybe it will for you too.

For 46 years he’s gathered what the sea coughs up—plastic, driftwood, lost things—and turned it into a museum. This short film is part meditation mixed with an ode to the weird and wonderful things we leave behind (but probably shouldn't).
